Health Inspectorate of Latvia by competence:
- monitors the compliance with regulatory acts in the field of drinking water safety;
- controls the fulfillment of drinking water safety requirements in public drinking water supply facilities (tap water);
- organizes drinking water quality monitoring.
Inspectorate carries out routine inspections and inspections for complaints investigation of drinking water supply systems how they meet requirements of minimum hygiene.
Main requirements for drinking water are determined in the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations of November 14, 2017 no. 671 "Mandatory Harmlessness and Quality Requirements for Drinking Water, and the Procedures for Monitoring and Control Thereof".
